Chacune de ses interventions\, quel qu’en soit le médium\, est appréhendée avec un regard de sculpteur : elle travaille sur l’épaisseur d’un mot\, soustrait des couleurs\, isole des formes familières et additionne des gestes… L’artiste joue avec les codes de la maîtrise et du lâcher-prise\, d’où l’apparition fréquente dans son travail de calculs ou d’instruments de mesure. Elle s’appuie sur des éléments qui nous sont proches et quotidiens\, désuets\, incomplets (canevas\, boîtes de puzzle\, fleurs séchées\, etc.) puis cherche à les impacter\, à les rendre étrangers jusqu’à révéler leur portée symbolique\, philosophique ou poétique. \nKARMA débutera sur une proposition d’exposition que l’artiste fera évoluer par l’ajout de nouvelles productions et l’activation d’évènements. Elle sera l’occasion d’inaugurer son Agenda d’Interactions Potentielles en ligne sur le site www.jillguillais.com. 1980. Réunies depuis 2007 sous ce nom pensé comme une sphère de partage et un outil de mise à distance de la notion d’auteur\, les deux artistes explorent un territoire de recherche principalement orienté vers l’image. Si leur pratique s’ancre dans le dessin\, elles s’aventurent également dans d’autres champs de représentation\, tels le spectacle\, le décor\, le film et la sculpture. \nEn rejouant les codes de la bande dessinée et du dessin de presse\, elles multiplient les tons (burlesque\, naïf) et les références (de Jim Shaw aux cartoons des années 1930\, de l’underground au modernisme\, des motifs textiles aux papiers décoratifs japonais) et revivifient par glissement et greffe\, une culture visuelle de masse. Puisant dans l’histoire de l’art comme dans la culture populaire\, elles s’emparent d’images iconiques inscrites dans la mémoire collective et les restituent dans un immense collage protéiforme et composite d’une grande liberté stylistique. \nPour L’Artothèque\, espaces d’art contemporain de Caen\, le tandem déplie au sein d’une exposition généreuse et bigarrée\, s’accaparant non sans humour le lieu\, une série de peintures\, collages\, installations et vidéo qui fait état de leurs marottes. Le titre Femme Pratique renvoie ici à une revue emblématique des années 70.
